In Puerto Rico, the Republican primary happened recently, and Donald Trump, the former President, was the main candidate. He’s expected to win because he’s the only major candidate left.
Puerto Rico’s Republican party gives out 23 delegates for the national convention, which is more than some states like Delaware, Maine, and New Hampshire.
Trump already won the nomination earlier this year, and he’ll be up against President Joe Biden in the general election in November.
Even though Puerto Rico is part of the U.S., it’s not a state, so it doesn’t vote in the presidential election. But it does have primaries to choose the candidates.
Last time, in 2020, Biden won the Democratic primary with 56% of the vote. In 2016, Marco Rubio won the Republican primary with about 70% of the vote, beating Trump, who only got around 13%.
