FC Barcelona are seriously thinking about signing Portuguese duo Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix in the January transfer window, and not waiting until the summer to make their loan moves permanent according to Mundo Deportivo.
The pair represented by superagent Jorge Mendes arrived in Catalonia on deadline day in the summer transfer window.
Neither man is wanted by their respective parent clubs, which are Manchester City in Cancelo’s case and Atletico Madrid in Felix’s, thanks to fallings out with Pep Guardiola and Diego Simeone.
Thus far in 2023/2024, however, they have fared much better under Xavi Hernandez.
On Wednesday, both players were crucial in guaranteeing the Blaugrana passage to the knockout phases of the Champions League for the first time since 2021.
Barca and their fans must have feared the worst when Pepe
Just a couple of minutes later, though, Cancelo equalized ahead of setting Felix up to score the winner approaching the hour mark.
With a must-win La Liga clash against Felix’s regular employers on the horizon this Sunday, Barca are reportedly thinking about not waiting around until June 30, 2024 – which is when their loans expire – to sign the Portugal internationals.
The Catalans fear that their price tags could rise for other interested outfits if they don’t act quickly, but also believe that they can come out of a potential double coup paying less than expected.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca think that they can reduce Felix’s asking price from $87.2 million (€80 million) to $43.6 million (€40 million) and Cancelo’s from $27.2 million (€25 million) to $16.3 million (€15 million).
Raising these funds, a combined $59.9 million (€55 million), will be a push for president Joan Laporta given the club’s precarious financial predicament whether an attempt is made now or in the summer.
But it would be a wise move to try and successfully pull off the operation ASAP amid Brazilian teen sensation Vitor Roque also possibly arriving at the turn of 2024 to provide positional rivalry to struggling striker Robert Lewandowski.
