MOSCOW. Feb 9 (Interfax) – Japan has offered financial assistance through UNESCO to restore cultural heritage, education and media security in Ukraine.

“Japan’s Ambassador to UNESCO Kano Takehiro signed a document with UNESCO Director-General Mrs. Audrey Azoulay on February 7 in the presence of Ukrainian Ambassador Vadim Omelchenko, in which Japan pledged to allocate around $14.6 million U.S. dollars (approximately 2 billion yen) from the UNESCO supplemental budget for the 2023 financial year to support Ukraine,” Ukrainian media outlets said, citing a statement made by the Japanese embassy to Ukraine on social media.

This aid will help fund cultural heritage protection efforts, psychological counseling courses for educational staff and journalists’ security, it said.
