The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is designated as a terrorist organization by the United States, but the United Kingdom has not designated it as such.

The United States and the European Union (EU) are thinking about adding more punishments, called sanctions, against Iran. They’re considering this because Iran attacked Israel over the weekend.

Janet Yellen, who works for the US government, said they plan to take action soon. And Josep Borrell, who works for the EU, said they’re also working on it.

Israel wants other countries to punish Iran’s missile program.

The United Nations (UN) used to have sanctions against Iran for its missile program, but they ended in October. Some countries, like the US, EU, and UK, kept their own sanctions and even added more.

Iran attacked Israel with missiles and drones from different places like Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen. Most of these were stopped by Israel and its friends.

Iran said they attacked Israel because they thought Israel attacked an Iranian place in Syria before, killing 13 people.

Israel has mostly responded by asking other countries to punish Iran’s missile program. They also want the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which is a big part of Iran’s military, to be called a terrorist group.

Janet Yellen said they’ll probably use sanctions to hurt Iran’s finances and stop them from helping other groups in places like Ukraine. They’ve already targeted more than 500 people and groups linked to Iran.

Jake Sullivan, who advises the US on security, said they’ll also target Iran’s missile and drone program, the Revolutionary Guards, and Iran’s defense ministry with new sanctions.

The EU’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, said some countries in the EU want to add more sanctions on Iran too.

Israel’s foreign minister is happy that more countries might add sanctions to Iran.

World leaders want to keep things calm in the Middle East after this attack. US President Joe Biden says Israel should feel like they won and not escalate things more.

The UK’s Prime Minister told Israel’s Prime Minister to be careful not to make things worse.

The G7 group, which includes big economies, is working together to respond diplomatically.

Iran says the issue is over unless Israel does something else. But they warned they’ll hit back hard if Israel does. Russia, a friend of Iran, also wants everyone to calm down and avoid a big fight.
