A dramatic video captured the intense altercation between two men aboard a Brooklyn subway car, culminating in chaos and panic as gunfire erupted during rush hour.
The footage, filmed by a passenger on a northbound A train, corroborated witness testimonies shared with authorities, showcasing a confrontation escalating to violence as the train approached the A/C Hoyt–Schermerhorn Streets station.
Police disclosed that the instigator, aged 36, was shot with his own firearm when the other man, aged 32, managed to wrest it from him and fired multiple shots.
Before the shooting, the two men engaged in a physical altercation for several minutes, while fellow passengers urged them to cease their dispute, especially noting the presence of children onboard.
The situation intensified as the 36-year-old, clad in a black sweatshirt and yellow baseball cap, aggressively confronted the other man, hurling insults and threats. The younger man, wearing a yellow shirt and black jacket, attempted to ignore the provocation but eventually stood up to defend himself.
As tensions escalated, commuters intervened, urging the men to stop fighting, but their efforts proved futile. The instigator then attacked the other man, prompting chaos and screams among passengers.
Amidst the commotion, the younger man managed to gain control of the firearm and used it against his assailant. The gunfire caused panic, with passengers fleeing to the opposite end of the train car.
Upon arrival at the station, the younger man was swiftly arrested by police. The injured 36-year-old was transported to Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he underwent surgery and was listed in critical but stable condition.
NYPD Chief of Transit Michael Kemper confirmed that the man had been stabbed by a woman during the altercation, who remains at large.
The subway car was left bloodied and littered with ballistic evidence, and authorities recovered a firearm from the scene.
